Synthesis and Uses of Ni(II) Complex with Schiff Base [Benzene-1,2-Diyldimethylylidene]Dicarbamic Acid

A nickel complex of Schiff base ligand [benzene-1,2-diyldimethylylidene]dicarbamic acid was synthesized and used for the construction of monohydrogen phosphate selective electrode. The structure of the free ligand and the complex was evaluated by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, IR and UV absorption spectroscopy. The stability of the complex of the ligand with various metal ion was calculated in terms of formation constant (Kf). The complex has been successfully used as an electroactive material for the development of monohydrogen phosphate selective electrode. The selectivity coefficient of ionophore was calculated by MPM method indicates the high selectivity of the electrode towards monohydrogen phosphate over other tested anions.
