Evaluation of the anti-inflammatory effects of hydroalcoholic extracts of Albizia ferruginea bark on formalin-induced inflammation in Wistar rats. The effects of hydroalcoholic extracts of A. ferruginea on subchronic formalin-induced inflammation were assessed over a 10-day period. The animals were divided into 7 groups of five animals each. Inflammation was induced by injecting 0.1 mL of 2% formalin under the right plantar fascia on the first and third days of the experiment. The negative control group was given distilled water (10 mL/kg) orally. The positive control group received diclofenac (4 mg/kg, po). The test groups received 70/30 and 50/50 hydroalcoholic extracts of A. ferruginea bark at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg, respectively. The various substances were administered orally via an oesophageal tube. It should be noted that the 70/30 hydroalcoholic extract at a dose of 200 mg/kg showed a maximum inhibition of 44.47% (p<0.05) on the tenth day. Diclofenac (4 mg/kg) produced a maximum inhibition of 77.48% (p<0.01) of oedema on the sixth day. The hydroalcoholic extracts, at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg, showed weight gains of 4.6 g and 5.5 g respectively for the hydroalcoholic (70/30). As for the group treated with diclofenac (4 mg/kg), a 3.12% variation in body weight was observed. This report concludes that the hydroalcoholic extract of Albizia ferruginea bark extract showed anti-inflammatory activity in the rat model studied.
